The Eucharist – The Promise of Emmanuel Fulfilled
The Eucharist is Emmanuel, God with us. The Most Blessed Sacrament. The bread of life. The mystery of faith. The source and summit of our faith. Jesus’s own Body and Blood that was given up for us on the Cross. The Second Person of the Most Holy Trinity is physically present to us.
Polls say that the number of Catholics who believe in the ‘Real Presence’ in the Most Blessed Sacrament drops every year. What does the ‘Real Presence’ actually mean? When Jesus said, “This is my Body…This is my Blood,” He meant it. The bread became His Body. The wine became His Blood. As surely as the water at the Wedding at Cana became wine. Jesus can do this because He is God. He does the same miracle at every Mass through the hands of the priest.
Why? “Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood will have eternal life, and I will raise Him up on the last day.” Jesus gives us Himself so He can carry us with Him into eternity.
